Adirondack Surgical Group
Bariatric Surgery at
Edward G. Hixson MD
Karen A. Hixson ANP
In
cooperation with Adirondack Medical Center, ASG offers the surgical
treatment of
severe obesity and associated health problems.
Comprehensive
evaluation is offered to obese patients. Bi-weekly information and
support group meetings are held. A multidisciplinary staff provides
medical, surgical,
dietary, and mental health services.
The program
meets national, state, and professional society (American Society
for Bariatric Surgery) guidelines. Patients are followed for life;
our program will cooperate with other programs established elsewhere.
Severe
morbid obesity is a disease. There are many associated disease states
or co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, dyslipidemia
or "high cholesterol", osteoarthritis, gastrointestinal reflux disease
(GERD), and many others.
The disease of obesity is life threatening,
and destroys the quality of life for many.
Only surgery has been proven
to be effective long-term treatment for the vast majority.
If you
are interested, call Dan Hill or Lisa Smith at 518-897-2531. You will
be invited to a free informational meeting at Adirondack Medical Center
where one of our
surgeons will explain how bariatric surgery is a life-saving
treatment for morbid obesity, as
well as answer any questions you
may have.
